Modern tap dancing evolved through the years 1900 and 1920. Savion Glover is the best known comtemporary tap dancer. He was born in New Jersey. He made his debut at the age of twelve. Glover is one of the youngest males to be nominated for a Tony award in 1989 at age fifteen for his performance in Black and Blue which was a musical. He won a Tony award in 1996 for best choreography in "Bring in 'da noise, Bring in 'da funk".
